A high altitude mountain single vineyard site (420meters above sea level) on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain in Stellenbosch
Vineyard/Soil:
0.97 ha block with predominantly deep red decomposed granite soils.
Vintage Conditions:
Exceptional quality vintage year due to a good cold winter and other favourable climatic conditions during the growing season. Very cool night temperatures and a cool ripening season allowed great flavours to develop which have been expressed in the wine.
Yield:
5 tons/ha
Harvest statistics:
Grapes harvested 24.5°B From late March until early April.
Vinification:
Handpicked and sorted on sorting tables followed by destemming and gentle crushing directly into open top fermentors, where it underwent a series of punch downs and pump over's until dry. Malolactic-fermentation occurred in barrel.
The vineyard even though only 0.97ha is divided into 3 different areas and the grapes from these sites are vinified separately using Rhone yeast strains and matured separately until blending for bottling.
Maturation:
This wine spent 18 months in French oak barrels of which 50 was new and 50% 2'nd fill.
Analysis:
Alcohol 14,5%, TA 5.5g/litre, pH 3.73

This wine is a true reflection of our unique cool climate elevated mountain vineyard sites.

Tasting Notes
Deep red and purple with powerful aromas of spice, white and black pepper supported by expressions of blackberry fruit and hints of violets.
A concentrated palate with complex juicy blackberry fruit with underlying spice, fine tannins and a expressive lingering finish.
